King's Road
Charles II used the King's Road as his own private thoroughfare (hence the name) in the 17th Century as he rode through Chelsea between his two London residences, Palace of Whitehall and Hampton Court Palace. It was finally open for public use in 1830. Fast forward 130 years, it was the place to be seen for film and pop stars in the Swinging 1960s.
Today it is still an elegant street and glamorous destination for shoppers and tourists visiting the Duke of York Square development, the redoubtable Peter Jones, numerous designer shops and the new Saatchi Gallery of contemporary art.
