Isabella Plantation
Isabella Plantation is a 40-acre enclosed woodland garden lying in the heart of Richmond Park. Popular all year round, it's seen at its best in late Spring when the azalea, rhododendrons, magnolia, camellia and bluebells reach full bloom. Almost paradise.
Lord Sidmouth first fenced off the former bog in 1831 to grow timber. Park superintendent George Thomson created the garden we now recognise in 1951 by digging a stream through the middle, enlarging the ponds and introducing several different rhododendron species.
85 and K3 go along Kingston Hill. Easier to drive and park in Broomfield car park.
There is no Isabella. 'Isabel' is a 15th Century word for grey yellowish marsh colour.
Isabella Plantation is run by the Royal Parks.
