Chinatown
Chinatown covers a patchwork of 11 streets sandwiched between Leicester Square and Shaftesbury Avenue. Gerrard Street, with Chinese Gates at either end, lies at its heart. Best time to visit is during the Chinese New Year celebrations every February.
The Chinese moved into the West End in the 1950s from Limehouse in Docklands. Chinese sailors from the East India Company had visited the docks as early as the 18th Century. By 1880s, the Chinese had settled in Limehouse establishing over 30 businesses.
