Disover The Real London
Albert Bridge
Albert Bridge, which spans the River Thames between Chelsea and Battersea, was built by Rowland Ordish in 1873. Though its Victorian wedding cake-style architecture has made it one of London's favourite landmarks, poet John Betjeman had to mount a campaign in the 1950s to stop it being demolished in favour of a more robust replacement.
Please look out for this eccentric notice on the toll hut - "All troops must break step when marching over this bridge." This is to stop the bridge swaying like the Millennium Bridge (aka "Wobbly Bridge") did on its 2000 opening.
