Disover The Real London
Lambeth Bridge
Lambeth Bridge was built in 1932 replacing the former 1862 bridge. The five-arch steel bridge is qaintly book-ended by pineapple-topped obelisks, built as a tribute to local Lambeth resident John Tradescant who grew Britain's first pineapple.
On a clear morning or moonlit evening, Lambeth Bridge offers one of London's best known views - looking up the Thames to the Houses of Parliament.

Lambeth Bridge was preceded by a horse ferry - this is the shallowest part of the River Thames at low tide. It was owned by the Archbishop of Canterbury and in use for 200 years up to 1750.
