Disover The Real London
Richmond Park Deer
Deer have roamed in Richmond Park since 1625 when Charles I enclosed the grounds, created his own private hunting park and introduced 2,000 deer. There are presently about 650 red and fallow deer in the park, which at 25,000 acres in size, is London's largest open space.
Once you have found your deer in the park (and they do sometimes take a bit of finding), please do keep a respectful distance, especially the stags as they can charge if disturbed.
Mortlake and North Sheen are a good mile away. Perhaps best to drive or cycle.
The Deer don't have the park to themselves - there are over 1000 different species of beetle crawling around.
Richmond Park is run by the Royal Parks.
