Disover The Real London
Hammersmith Bridge
Hammersmith Bridge, spanning the River Thames between Hammersmith and the Castlenau peninsula, was built by Joseph Bazalgette in 1887. It replaced the original crossing (London's first suspension bridge) by William Tierney Clark. It is the perfect spot to watch the capital's best rowers in action, and in particular the Boat Race.
Hammersmith Bridge has the misfortune to be the most bombed bridge in London - in 1939, 1996 and 2000. The IRA were the suspected perpetrators on all three occasions.
