Lincoln's Inn
Lincoln's Inn is the oldest of the four Inns of Courts. Records go back as 1422 but it is thought that Lincoln's Inn was established a good 50 years earlier. It is named after local landowner Henry de Lacy, 3rd Earl of Lincoln. Today it's still home to barristers' chambers - the Law Courts are next door.
Lincoln's Inn has many venerable buildings - Old Hall, Great Hall (pictured), Chapel and Library - all, sadly, out of bounds to the general public. However, you can roam freely around the manicured lawns, similar in feel to the colleges at Oxford or Cambridge.
