Eros
Eros, in the middle of Piccadilly Circus, is one of London's most popular monuments. It was created as memorial to philanthropic social and labour reformer, 7th Earl of Shaftesbury, who as MP championed the Factory Acts and Lunacy Act, as well as chairing the Ragged School Unions.
Sculpted in 1893 by Alfred Gilbert, the statue is not meant to depict Eros, the Greek god of Love, but instead represent the Angel of Christian Charity.
