Disover The Real London
Cannizaro Park
Cannizaro Park is one of London's best kept secrets. Tucked out of sight beyond Wimbledon Common, the 34-acres park resembles a mini Kew Gardens with its mix of open parkland, formal gardens (Italian), avenue of trees (Maple) and dense woodland (Lady Jane's Wood). Best time to come is in late Spring when the Azalea Tunnel is in full bloom.
Scattered throughout the park are several fine sculptures. Look out especially for the striking white marble Diana the Huntress and bust of Haile Selassie - he stayed briefly in Wimbledon after being exiled from Abyssinia in 1935.
20 minutes walk from Wimbledon.
93 goes along Parkside.
The park is named after the Duke and Duchess of Cannizarro (Sicilian title) who were tenants here in 1817-41.
