| Eel Pie Island |
| Eel Pie Island lies in the middle of River Thames at Twickenham and was named after the local tavern's favourite dish. Eel Pie Island has long been a centre for revelry: Steamers carried boating parties up the Thames for picnics and dancing in the Victorian era; and the Eel Pie Hotel was a much-loved jazz and blues haunt, featuring the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and The Who, in 1960s. |
| The hotel sadly burned down in 1971 and things are much quieter on the island these days. Privately owned, public access is now confined to a central pathway (no roads here). However the island stills manages to exude a certain raffish air. |

The Kenwigs dined on a "cold collation, bottled beer, shrub and shrimps" on the island in Charles Dickens's novel Nicholas Nickleby. |
