Disover The Real London
Kensal Green Cemetery
Kensal Green Cemetery was the first of the seven great Victorian burial grounds in London, opening its gates to the dead in 1833. Its 72 acres of woodland are marked out by elaborate mausolea and its catacombs are the largest in the country.
The list of those buried at Kensal Green is a roll call of the great and good of Victorian life. It inlcudes Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Charles Babbage, Anthony Trollope, Blondin, William Makepiece Thackeray, Wilkie Collins and a certain WH Smith.
