Gog and Magog
Are these the campest bell ringers in England? They are the giants Gog and Magog who strike the bells of St Dunstan-in-the-West with their clubs every quarter hour. The bells are connected to the first public clock in London to have a minute hand (built 1671).
St Dunstan-in-the-West was first mentioned in historical records in 1185. The present church was built in yellow Leicestershire freestone in the Gothic Revival style by John Shaw in 1831. Almost uniquely among London churches, the interior is octagonal.
