Changing of the Guard
It is important to remember that there are TWO Changing of the Guards' ceremonies, - one on foot, the other on horse. Buckingham Palace and St James's Palace involves five Household regiments on foot - Grenadiers, Coldstream, Scots, Irish and Welsh - alternating guard duties. Winnie the Pooh author A.A. Milne celebrated the ceremony in his poem Buckingham Palace.
The other two Household regiments are on horseback - the Life Guards (red tunics) and the Blues and Royals (dark blue). They ride down the Mall to replace the other at Horse Guards Parade (pictured).
