Furnivall Gardens
Furnivall Gardens in Hammersmith is one of those small secluded gardens that London does so well. Beautifully landscaped and well tended with the added bonus of butting up to the River Thames. Perfect for watching the world go by. It was named after literary scholar and rowing enthusiast Dr Frederick Furnivall.
The gardens, created in 1951, covered Hammersmith Creek, the tidal mouth of Stamford Brook, which was blizted during the War. Barges once sailed all the way to King Street, creating such a buzz of activity that the area was known as "Little Wapping".
