| Hampstead Heath Bathing Ponds |
| There are 25 ponds on Hampstead Heath (see map), of which three are designated bathing ponds - one for women, one for men and one mixed. The water is cold (normally about 14 Celsius) but nothing beats a quick swim followed by a sunbathe to wash your London blues away. |
| The ponds were originally dug out in the 17th and 18th centuries as reservoirs to supply clean water to London. |
